With a title like Men Are Scum and Women Are Stupid you have to want to read this book. Thankfully, it does live up to its bold title.
The author nails it. The successfulness of a relationship depends on the character of the two individuals who are entering into it. IF a good woman starts out with a scummy man, she will not find happiness. I totally agree with Kempton, for every 1,000 men about 17 are nice guys. I've often said that I feel sorry for women who think they will find a good man since most are lacking in character.
Kempton writes in an easy to read and follow style. He gives excellent advice. All women who are looking for love need to read this book. He is correct, women need to stop selling themselves short and discover that it is better to live without a man and to live with a bad one.
The title hooked me. Turning I went back to the author's table and asked, "This is tongue in cheek, right?" He said, "No" and told me the story of his writing the book. Intrigued, a copy of the book went home with me. I was not disappointed. This book is direct, hard-hitting, and truthful. A good book for young women (and men) and the adults who love them. Self-respect is the unnamed motivator of this book and is delivered in a truthful fashion that appeals to all ages. My recommendation Read it. Then buy a copy for your teenager!
I can't believe what truth this book holds. I need many more copies to share with kids to understand what dating is really all about.

The first time I read this book was my sophomore year in high school, although it really opened my eyes to the relationship world it didn't really set in. Now that I am a sophomore in college I decided it was time to read it again. Honestly I think all girls should read it as they entire high school and then again when they are entering college just to remind them of what they want. It is a fantastic book!

Very informative. Wish I had this book years ago. It's an eye opener but in a good way.
I have had many of these same thoughts and concerns for my own children and students, and Kempton articulates them perfectly. This is a must read for early teens, boys and girls alike. Girls need to be aware of the "bears", and the boys need to be aware of the societal pressures to become "bears". My children will read this book.
